Body Dysmorphia
What is Body Dysmorphia?
Body dysmorphia, also known as Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), is a mental health condition characterized by obsessive focus on perceived flaws in one's appearance. These perceived flaws are often not observable to others. Body dysmorphia can accompany eating disorder diagnoses but can also be present in the absence of disordered eating.
What are treatment approaches for Body Dysmorphia?
Treatment typically includes cognitive-behavioral therapy to address distorted thinking about body image, and may also involve medication, such as antidepressants, to help manage obsessive thoughts and behaviors.
